Redrum

So when I get wrapped up in everything else (working 35 hours a week, 17 hours of class, applying for jobs after graduation, and actually going to my internship) I end up completely forgetting about this poor little blog. Last week, I actually had a little break because my supervisor was on vacation in Vegas (where I'm headed in a couple weeks for Spring Break!), so I haven't had a lot to write about recently.

However, the week before last, I went in to interview the criminal defense attorney at Atkins & Markoff, Mark Bailey, about a case he recently had. This guy, Don Mancil, killed his neighbor and friend of 30 years by stomping him to death. Mark said they were some of the most gruesome autopsy photos he had ever seen. Anyway, what's crazy about this case is that the state wanted this guy in for 10 to life, but the original deal that Mancil received was 35 years of service: 25 in prison and 10 out, and a charge of murder in the second degree. Mark, his attorney, got his sentence reduced to manslaughter and four years in prison. Sooo Mark saved a guy who beat and kicked his friend to death (over an alleged affair with his wife) 31 years of prison time and got rid of his murder charge. If you ask me, that's pretty impressive. There are more details about how that happened... it was really an interesting case.
